Gem Hotels Group is a network of dedicated industry professionals representing decades of hands-on experience in hotel operations and the development business. Gem offers a global view of the industry derived from direct involvement in budget to ultra-luxury hotel operations.  Gem’s scope of experience and knowledge encompasses development, operation, acquisition, repositioning, recapitalization, and sales transactions.

Gem works as an exclusive agent for the owner, towards improving short term performance in order to drive long term value for the asset.

Gem Hotels Group is led by Peter Baines, a hotel industry veteran with over thirty years’ hotel industry experience.  He worked for Fairmont Hotels as the operations controller for five properties before being promoted to corporate business development for three brands. So he has participated in operations leadership teams and corporate decision making. Peter brings strong financial training and an inherent service sensibility and integrity. Philosophically, he is a relationship builder and is fastidious to uncover the truths that numbers tell. His work encompasses feasibility, acquisition, repositioning, capital improvement, HMA negotiation, and crisis work-out projects.

Peter has worked as CFO of a Southeast Asian hotel company with a complex multi-jurisdictional corporate structure that needed the development of a robust management reporting and accounting framework.  Loan facilities were required, local banking relationships fostered, and multi-country cash flow management established to keep development projects and overhead expenses funded and on track.

As CEO and founder of Gem Hotels Group, Peter has been focused on setting up mixed-use joint-venture development projects for overseas investors.
